Wright of Derby: The Shock of the New with Matthew Wilson

As part of ‘The year of Joseph Wright’ Derby Museums invites you to a series of specially curated artist talks and lectures about the life and work of Joseph Wright, exploring new and ongoing research from leading professionals across the country.

Matthew Wilson is a writer, art historian and educator who specialises in how we interpret and understand visual culture. He has written four books: The Art of Happiness (forthcoming) Art Unpacked, The Hidden Language of Symbols and Symbols in Art. His writing has appeared in BBC Culture, The Economist, The Spectator, and Aesthetica Magazine, and he is an accredited lecturer for The Arts Society.

This talk is made possible through a generous donation from John Owens and presented as part of Joseph Wright Rediscovered: a series of talks organised by Derby Museums and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
